Gary Bissell

Business Director & Lead Physio

Clinic Director, Gary Bissell has been qualified as a Physiotherapist since 1992, and later as a manual therapist (MMACP)

As a student he had a keen interest in sports injuries; in particular Hockey and Running.  His career initially took him down the sports injury route providing pitch side Physiotherapy before and after professional matches. Although he has a passion and a love for this area of Physiotherapy the first years of Gary's training as a qualified practitioner involved a general medical approach. This allowed him to work within a hospital environment enabling him to further develop his experience in a variety of different medical areas.

The experience that Gary gained from his hospital training has been invaluable in his application as a Musculoskeletal Therapist. He has had the privilege of working with locally based Orthopaedic Consultants and GPs, which has enabled him to liaise directly between patients and consultants with any queries, providing an all round service for his new and his loyal clients.

Gary has worked with numerous international athletes and teams including England Hockey, The Welsh Netball Association, London Marathon Team of Physios, The Hammond Dance School, England Athletics, Dance UK,  and Warwickshire County Cricket to name just a few.

Now in its 20th year, Gary formed ProPhysio UK Ltd in 1997 and is our Principal Director and Business Owner.  His role involves him treating patients, providing clinical mentoring of his growing team of highly specialised Physiotherapists, as well as providing clinical research and business development.

He has multiple qualifications and is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, Health Professions Council and the Manipulation Association of Chartered Physiotherapists.

Gary works closely with Chester and Manchester Universities and has papers published  related to back pain rehabilitation e.g. in the Journal of Orthopaedics 2008 (Publication April 2008) – Twenty Years of Specific, Isolated Lumbar Extension Research : A Review

As well as many years treating musculoskeletal injuries, Gary also specialises in all types of Dance Injuries (working in partnership with The Hammond School in Chester) and sits on the UK Medical dance Fitness Advisory Board.

He is also medico-legally qualified to act as an Expert Witness for all types of musculoskeletal problems achieving MedCo Accreditation.

With over 20 years experience as a Physiotherapist and Director Gary still has the same strong passion and desire for the profession and over the years he has consolidated all his learning and experience, enabling him to treat and rehabilitate expertly in musculoskeletal injuries.

When Gary has any spare time he particularly enjoys family time with his wife and two girls.  He has a keen interest in all sports and particularly enjoys to keep fit by running and cycling..

Gary is happy to answer physiotherapy questions and also welcomes any feedback or suggestions that you may have regarding ProPhysio.
